David Yoakley Mitchell statement

My photographs are about a time and p lace that are unique to me. These photographs are my experiences, and reflect the world I dwell in as it slowly changes. By using themes of separation and memory in my work, I give the viewer the opportunity to share my experiences. Photographs are visual language, and using these images as metaphors gives me the ability to speak with out written text.

Glennville is a place, but the location isn’t as important as the idea. There is a genesis, but it is that which is done between the beginning and the exodus that reflects the ideals of our culture and identity. Power ceases at the time of death, therefore we must be prepared to labor towards our desired achievements, and these photographs speak of that work.
