Domiciled new paintings by Meg Aubrey is the current exhibition showing at whitespace, which had its opening reception on Friday, September 7th. In this exhibition, Aubrey portrays the “psychological distance” of suburban housewives from the viewpoint of a mom herself who grew up and still lives in suburbia. Her voice is spoken as an insider but also as a critic by her use of bright, cheerful colors contrasting the darker subject matter that seems to lurk among the carefully manicured lawns of suburban landscapes. With coffeehouse jazz music playing in the background, people seemed magnetized to to the installation of coffee cups featuring silhouettes of the suburban women, many of whom were in attendance at the opening and could be seen photographing themselves with their likeness!  And it wouldn’t be a whitespace opening without the Good Food Truck who served up special “Soccer Mom” drinks from the bar.
